Mengi Kjarnholt - South Iceland

I’ve known Tammy in Florence for her wedding. She said that when Mary, her sweety daughter, would be married, would call me back.
And so, now more than a year ago, I received Tammy’s call to warn me not to make commitments for June 2. Iceland was waiting for us.

Originally from Naples, Florida, Chase and Mary accompanied by a few intimate guests crossed the ocean and landed in Reykjavík, the capital and Iceland‘s largest city.

Landed on June 1,  7 ° C, gray skies and rain typically northern Europe. I stay at The White House, a small refuge typical of the area, small and cozy, where white, wood and nature were the protagonists.
The following day we finally met in the capital to visit together some impressive architectures of Iceland, one of them Hallgrímur church, lutheran cult place of Iceland: breathtaking. In the afternoon we moved together in the natural area of the geysers.

After the long day, Mary, Chase and their family moved to the location for the marriage.

Mengi Kjarnholt is a private home located on a hill and where nature meets art. An old farm used as a luxury hotel, always maintaining the taste and the typical characteristics of an Icelandic farm.

Mary was surrounded by the warmth of her bridesmaids and her mother Tammy who never left her ‘baby’ alone, excited for her big day. At Chase’s room, the atmosphere was more playful and less tense, muffled by the jokes of his friends.

After the preparations, a bus took us to the church on the lake in Úlfljótsvatnskirkja, the picturesque church located in front of the lake and behind it, the mountains. Everywhere you stop in Iceland, you will encounter spectacular landscapes that are difficult to explain in words and you will always be surprised.

An intimate and exciting ceremony immersed in nature, accompanied by the sweet melody of the harp that made the soundtrack to Mary’s sister, who wanted to pay homage to her with a small and special performance.

The warmth of Chase and Mary’s friends and family already warmed the atmosphere, but the sun, today, was the background for the whole day, allowing us to shoot with a crazy light, even late in the evening – in Iceland in June the dark hours are only 3, for the rest of the day the sun is high in the sky to create plays of light and spectacular shadows!

After the ceremony the coach accompanied us along the Golden Circle, a very popular tourist route in the south of Iceland, which covers about 300 km from Reykjavík up to the southern highlands and back. Among the attractions of the Golden Circle the Gullfoss waterfalls have given us wonderful views for wonderful photos of couples!

Returning to the Mangi House, all was ready: strands of lights, wildflowers and details in perfect shaby-chic style. It’s all ready to welcome guests and surprise them with a show cocking. During dinner, the ‘classic’ speech of friends and relatives of Mary and Chase between the commissions and the laughs of the two spouses and fun family games. Before joining them and celebrating, the wedding cake, with the sun .. at midnight!

An unforgettable experience, really difficult to explain in words: the images will tell for me.

Chase, Mary, cheers .. and see you soon!
